The I in TEAM…

cently received an email containing pictures of people plundering the endangered sea turtle‘s nests, walking away with bags filled to the brim with sea turtle eggs. It reminded me just how selfish humans are. We analyze everything on a scale of how much it would benefit us, and when the benefits are low, we simply disregard the matter and go on with our busy lives. Is that perhaps why our environment is in such a state today? Is it because there is no direct personal gain to be found that we all are so unwilling to change our ways, and do something concrete to preserve our beautiful planet for ourselves and our grand children?
We say that we are developing as a species, though I find that in certain aspects we are actually regressing. We have become completely insensitive to other people’s needs, not even speaking of Mother Nature’s needs. We are so self-absorbed that half the time we don’t even give a second thought on how our actions may impact others, or how it would impact the world at large.
When did we start becoming so selfish, and when did we stop caring for each other? How can we expect to build a successful future, when all we care about is what would benefit us? I feel that we need a drastic attitude adjustment if we want to progress, instead of regressing in the way we are now.
You may not see it now, but readjusting your selfish attitude will directly benefit you. Take the environment as an example, we don’t all need to start some tree-hugging movement to preserve the earth, but if we start with the small stuff like recycling the rest will slowly but surely follow suit. The same goes for our relationships towards our fellow human beings, a little bit of consideration goes a very far way. Don’t you agree that life would be so much more pleasant and fun, if nobody was solely looking out for themselves and their gains?
We need to make these internal changes before we find ourselves in a situation where it is too late to make those changes. Start having some consideration & compassion for each other, as well as our environment. Together we could make anything happen, remember a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. For once, don’t be the weak link.
