Taxes…
“D” day is almost upon us again, where everyone scurries about to get their books & paperwork right, in order to file for tax returns. While I was sitting with my accountant, working through some minor hiccups, we started talking about the current taxes and tax increases we could expect this year.
I admit that I got a bit hot under the collar during the conversation. The logic of increasing taxes, right after this passing recession, really escapes me. My accountant calmly tried explaining the need for yearly tax increases. Now I understand the need for taxes, as it funds all our basic public services, though the question remained, if it truly is in the recovering economy’s best interest to increase those taxes at this particular point in time.
I tend to say no, it’s not, it’s crippling the economy. It is not the man on the street’s fault that the economy turned to shit, so why is the average Joe the one to take the punch? If the government is truly struggling to provide us with the basic public services with the basic public services with the current level of taxation, then why don’t they look on to themselves for the solution, instead of making us pay for their fuckups! Each year the government spends billions of dollars, they spend our money to pay for their enormous salaries, fund their wars, and use our money to pay for whatever other schemes they have on their agendas. They, the government, say that they need an increased amount of funds to provide us with the same level of basic public services; I say the government needs to drastically cut back on expenses, and use that available money to provide us with those services. I am not saying that they must cut back on basic services to save money; I am saying that they need to cut back on all that reckless, unnecessary spending, and funnel that money to improve public services without increasing the current tax levels.
I am not asking or suggesting the impossible here. There are plenty of countries out there, whose governments spend a fraction of what our government spends yearly, and they still have great public services… it is possible for the government to function properly using only a quarter, or maybe even half of the funds they currently consume, and yes, they do consume it. I really think that the government needs to rethink the size of their budget, and the way they distribute and use those funds. I for one, demand better use of the money I am forced to contribute…

I will have to agree with every thing you just said. I’ll have to add these to fill out where our money is going.
Where most of our money goes.
