Garbarge Men or Business Consultants?

By Chris Rugh | January 12, 2010

Have you ever even tried to place yourself in a garbage man’s shoes? Most people haven’t. In general, we tend to look down upon garbage man, thinking of it as “lower level job”. However, as I was leaving my house the other morning, I was watching the garbage workers running up and down, collecting the garbage cans, and then hustling back. Their enthusiasm surprised me, and at the same time made me think about the whole matter. What is it …

Don’t forget Joy!

By Chris Rugh | January 8, 2010

Today we spend more and more time pushing ourselves to climb the corporate ladder, and double our yearly income.  We rush from one appointment to another, having such overloaded schedules that we hardly have time for our families, or ourselves.  Without even noticing, we start neglecting ourselves, pushing our own needs to the back.  The only thing that takes priority is business deadlines, our own personal needs long forgotten.  Now being an entrepreneur myself, I understand the importance of networking, promoting your company, and generally going the extra mile in order to reach you goals; however, your business shouldn’t be the only thing that takes priority in …

Schlage – Dumb as a Tree Stump

By Chris Rugh | December 31, 2009

Here is an example of how not treat customers. In fact in an example of how to work yourself out of business today.. Lets face facts. I always try and do the right thing. Especially today because with the internet you never know who you could piss off and YOUR company could get a well placed and high ranking blog post like this….

Sounds like a reputable name doesn’t it? I’m sure they have been around for awhile.. I’d just but, i just don’t care how long schlage …

2010 – Knock it Out of The Park

Change happens to all of us, and more often than not, it comes at the most inconvenient of times. Being a businessperson myself, I’ve been thrown off schedule due to unexpected changes that pops up in my life. How we handle those changes is what matters in the end. Being human, we cringe away from change because of the conditioning we have had from a young age. Our perception of change is completely negative, …

Know your Shit

By Chris Rugh | December 16, 2009

I was sitting on my couch this morning wrapped up in my snuggie (it was a left over from thursday nights snuggie bar crawl with 40 of my closest friends) and reading forbes, some industry info, and other things. It struck me that a good part of my job as CEO is simply to know my shit and be a super sponge for info.

Knowledge is power.

If your going to be good at business that means you always need to get better at business. Take time to read, listen, learn, and ask wise people what they think, and make sure to ask questions.

My grandfather survived the great depression. …

Keeping Your Entrepreneurial Spark Alive

By Chris Rugh | December 9, 2009

Whether it be buying a house or choosing a spouse or your career path, it is imperative to think ahead and to make sure that the path you choose is one that you like, and more importantly, one that you want to stay on. As a writer, I oftentimes have to consider not what I want to write about, but ultimately, what will engage my reader. With all of my work, be it blogging, article writing or public speaking, I have to make sure that I have that special spark that keeps my audience interested, that will make people come to attend my speaking events and that will also encourage them to continue …

Friend or Foe, the Dilemma of Friends

By Chris Rugh | December 3, 2009

Some of the biggest obstacles when you want to get things done are your friends. You’re friends can be terrible when it comes to your success. Most often than not your friends are the people that say, “hey let’s go grab that beer, hey let’s have a good time, hey let’s take a trip, hey let’s go do this or that.”
Friends can certainly be a distraction to your success. Now, should you get rid of your friends? Absolutely not, your friends are what keep you sane and keep you grounded …

Its Ok To Be Crazy

By Chris Rugh | November 29, 2009

I’m not the kind of guy who keeps an 9 to 5 job, or five days a week job schedule, but what I do have is the capacity to produce great amounts of work when needed. What we have to understand is that most of the people who made their fortunes did not work for a company but made their fortune on their own.

Here’s a good story that I heard but is unsubstantiated. Its about Ted Turner and his working habits….

Don’t be Dead Right

By Chris Rugh | November 26, 2009

Life is too short, not to pay attention to the little things that matter. Many people take their lives for granted and in one split second their precious life can be over forever.

I’ve been amazed how, in Seattle many people fail to look both ways before they cross the street.  Not only are you putting your own life at risk, you’re putting the person driving and others in the vehicle at risk.  Looking both ways before you cross the street is extremely important to avoid an accident.

I wonder sometimes if it’s the fault of America’s colleges.  I’m sure most of our mothers told us to look both ways before we …

Work Hard So You Don’t Have to Work

By Chris Rugh | November 23, 2009

I’m the kind of guy who actually doesn’t t work very much. In fact, as many of you know, I often only work for around 10 to 20 hours a week. Sometimes even i’m surprised at how littlle “work” i do.  Some weeks though, I work for around 40, 50 or 60 hours. But those weeks are rare… REALLY RARE, and are far and few in between. However, the important point to remember is that I do have those weeks.

Sometimes you often hear people talk about things such as not working very hard or not working a lot and how “easy” this project is going to be. Comments like, …
