Don’t be Dead Right

By Chris Rugh | November 26, 2009

Fishy businessLife is too short, not to pay attention to the little things that matter. Many people take their lives for granted and in one split second their precious life can be over forever.

I’ve been amazed how, in Seattle many people fail to look both ways before they cross the street.  Not only are you putting your own life at risk, you’re putting the person driving and others in the vehicle at risk.  Looking both ways before you cross the street is extremely important to avoid an accident.

I wonder sometimes if it’s the fault of America’s colleges.  I’m sure most of our mothers told us to look both ways before we cross the street when we were children, it’s basic.  You  even hear it all the time up through high school.  Then you get to college and what’s the first thing that happens, the rules are changed on campus.  While you’re at college you learn the students always have the right away. Which mean cars, have to come to a dead stop in the middle of the road because some human being wants to cross the street.  Since moving to the west coast and especially Seattle  I don’t understand why people would walk across the street and actual without actually even looking both ways?  They are so sure that nobody is going to hit them, because they have the “right of way” , that their willing to walk out, with a their 100 to 250 pound body, and risk having 2,000 to 4,000 pounds  of moving metal flatten them like a pancake.

I don’t get it? I don’t understand it? I don’t know if I necessarily need to.  I do know my father had great advice “Never be dead right, because if you’re dead right your dead and the rest doesn’t matter.” Thanks dad!
