Thirteen Crucial Qualities of Productive Leadership and Enlightened Leaders

My three decade of senior and executive leadership, the investigation for my Masters Degree in Management, and my research for my Ph.D. in Leadership supply me with a unique vantage point about what are the critical skills or traits to grow to be a effective and effective leader. I will share not only what I have learned in the "genuine planet" and the "academic globe," but insights as to the effects of overcoming adversity has on the shaping of profitable leaders.

I personally interviewed sixteen leaders that overcame adversity and had all became accomplished and nicely respected leaders. The sixteen successful key leaders that graciously participated in my Doctoral Leadership and Overcoming Adversity analysis every had their own life journey.

These sixteen leaders were effective at overcoming the obstacles in their youth and adult lives which helped them to grow.

Leading scholars such as Bass, Bennis, and Kouzes&amp Posner, and others essentially agree with the sixteen prominent leaders that I personally interviewed identified nine critical qualities of a leader. Here are the nine most frequently cited leadership qualities, abilities, or traits are discovered in the classic academic leadership literature, and were either cited or agreed with by sixteen leadership and overcoming adversity investigation participants for my Ph.D. dissertation:1. Honesty or integrity 2. A high level of people abilities three. Initiative, assertiveness, drive, or determination four. Outstanding communication abilities or willingness to speak up, take a position, or take charge 5. Vision (being forward-looking) 6. Desire or passion to lead and inspire7. Positive attitude and self-confidence charisma 8. Expertise of the business and/or group task at hand competence9. The capability to overcome adversity or obstacles

These sixteen effective major leaders that I interviewed for my Doctoral research into leadership and overcoming adversity particularly identified an further 4 crucial qualities that are not typically identified in the academic leadership literature. These additional critical elements or traits included:

These thirteen leadership characteristics, skills, or traits had been presented in my Doctoral dissertation Leadership and Overcoming Adversity Analysis was peer debriefed by 5 internationally recognized very best-selling authors, and well-respected leadership scholars.
