As Bannockburn Green breaks down the outdoor summer time stage, its second annual Summer Concert Series comes to a close. In spite of less-than-perfect weather, a sluggish economy, and competing seasonal events, the summer time scene at Bannockburn Green was alive and properly attended. The cost-free concert series drew record turnouts, topping far more than 200 men and women for the final concert, far exceeding last year's attendance.
According to Robyn Konlon, Bannockburn Green events coordinator, "Individuals could come and hear high quality performers with out paying for tickets or fighting for seats." The casual venue was a massive attraction for families, she says, who could come and go as they please, and shop or dine in the surrounding retailers and restaurants. "The numbers speak to the community-friendly atmosphere." Konlon says. "Folks loved the nostalgic jazz-blues format."
Amongst this summer time concert series' performers had been: world-class blues vocalist Katherine Davis Chicago blues boogie jazz pianist Erwin Helfer jazz greats Daryl Coutts, "JB" Brown and Roberto Agusto Stardust 12-piece nostalgic big band Ronnie Hicks and J.R. Fuller on Bass and Japanese blues guitarist Shun Kikuta. Konlon says the overwhelming good response has motivated an early search for next year's high-profile performers.
