New York, NY (PRWEB) March 9, 2010
The Global Spa Summit (GSS), the premier annual event for the spa and wellness industries, today announced that one of the world's most sought after futurists, Edie Weiner, has been named the opening keynote speaker.
Weiner, one of the most influential ?future-focused? analysts, helps high-profile organizations understand the complex social, economic, political, and technological transformations on the horizon, so they can best position themselves for a profitable future. And with the 2010 Summit theme of ?Bridges Worth Building,? Weiner will empower spa and wellness leaders to identify the right future bridges to build, whether to new industries, markets, customer bases, or regions.
?With almost every major global conference today addressing the financial, environmental, political, and medical woes facing the world, it's refreshing to address an audience that comes together for the purpose of enhancing well-being and wellness,? noted Edie Weiner. ?The spa and wellness industries are right at the intersection of many critical, macro trends that will only gather steam in the future. My goal is to give industry leaders a more focused awareness of where we?re coming from, so we can all intelligently navigate where we?re headed.?
Weiner?s keynote address will explore how we?re confronting a powerful historical transformation (as decisive as the shift from the Industrial to Post-Industrial Era), with a rapid movement into a ?virtual? age. Analyzing how the Virtual Age (where all new value propositions are derived from altered dimensionalities of ?space?), will radically redefine concepts of wellness, health, leisure, and travel, she will explore the profound implications and opportunities for the spa and spa-related industries. Additionally, Weiner will be available as a resource throughout the Summit and will later synthesize her thoughts on the industry?s future in a closing-session presentation.
?Edie has helped industries, governments, and many Fortune 500 companies examine themselves through the lens of the future, to identify the big-picture changes unfolding, so they can make the creative changes to ensure their future growth,? said Peter Ellis, chairman of the board of the Global Spa Summit. ?She?ll motivate us to be optimistic and grasp the opportunities that lie ahead, not only financially, but in ways we can make a positive impact on our clients, our societies, and even the world at large.?
As president of leading futurist consulting group Weiner, Edrich, Brown, Inc. for over thirty years, Edie Weiner has served more than 300 major corporate, governmental, and academic clients. She has been a guest lecturer at numerous universities, including Harvard, Brown, and the Wharton School, and her articles have appeared in major publications including the Harvard Business Review and The Wall Street Journal. She has coauthored four books with her partner, Arnold Brown: Supermanaging, Office Biology, Insider?s Guide to the Future, and FutureThink.
The GSS will be held at the historic Ciragan Palace Kempinski Hotel in Istanbul, May 17?19. Across its four-year history the Summit has played host to a wide range of prestigious speakers, including Adolf Ogi, former president of Switzerland; Steve Case, CEO, Revolution Health; Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th U.S. surgeon general; Ian Schrager, famed American hotelier and real estate developer; and Reto Wittwer, CEO of Kempinski. Weiner joins Phillippe Bourguignon, CEO of Miraval and vice chairman of Revolution Places, as a 2010 keynote speaker. Additional keynote presenters will be announced in upcoming weeks.
